Horstmann hotel’s position makes it an excellent base to walk to and explore Münster’s lovely and historic city center. Just five minutes’ pleasant walking from the hotel is Prinzipalmarkt, the principal market square in this city. Here gabled merchants’ houses can be admired alongside the building where the Peace of Westphalia was signed: the historic City Hall (Rathaus), and the towering St. Lamberti Church. Directly from this spot, the whole old part of town (Altstadt) can become yours to discover, with its picturesque cobblestone streets and hidden courtyards.
The principal cultural amenities are a short walk from here. The great St. Paulus Dom (Münster Cathedral) can be reached within 10 minutes on foot from the hotel, and its square is host to an excellent open-air market (Wochenmarkt) on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Just a couple of steps from the cathedral, there is the Pablo Picasso Graphic Museum that’s recommended to be visited for some good aesthetic injections. Aasee, a beautiful 15-20 minutes’ walk away large lake with fine pathways for walking and cycling forms the most important recreational spot in the city.
For all intents and purposes, the location can’t be beat. The main train station (Münster Hauptbahnhof) is only a five-minute walk that’s safe and secure, enabling easy access to the far corners of Germany and beyond. The streets in the vicinity of the station and as one moves towards the heart of the city are brimming over with all kinds of amenities from shops to bakeries, cafes to restaurants; whether one is inclined towards traditional German beer halls like Altes Gasthaus Leve or cutting-edge bistro’s. This amazing walkability means you can park your car or get off your train and start having everything in the city right at your service.
